The facelifted Audi A3 and S3 hatch and sedan have been detailed for Australia with styling revisions, new technology, and more power for the S3 – but there's a question mark over the fate of the mid-spec 40 TFSI.
The 2025 Audi A3 hatch and sedan have been detailed for Australia with updated styling, new technology, and more power for the 2025 Audi S3 – with price rises of up to $4427.
Due in local Audi showrooms in early 2025, the updated A3 small car is now limited to the entry-level 35 TFSI and S3 sports model, with the A3 40 TSFI S line not listed on the latest price list.
Drive has contacted Audi Australia to confirm if the A3 40 TFSI S line has been discontinued locally, or if an updated version is due to follow at a later date.
The S line styling package is now fitted as standard to the front-wheel-drive 35 TFSI, along with high-gloss exterior trim and a chrome window line.
Exterior styling revisions for the facelifted A3 include a flatter and wider grille, larger side air intakes, a new rear bumper and diffuser, redesigned alloy wheels, and the updated Audi badge with a two-dimensional appearance.
District Green, Ascari Blue and Progressive Red have been added to the A3’s colour palette in Australia.
Inside, the A3 receives an updated air vent design, a flatter automatic gear selector, revised fabric on the front door panels, and optional ambient lighting now running around the centre console and cupholders.
The 35 TFSI – with the S line package now standard – adds sports front seats with integrated headrests, heated front seats, four-way lumbar support, electric driver’s seat adjustment, black headlining, aluminium inlays and elements, stainless-steel pedal covers, and a perforated leather steering wheel.
New equipment for the 35 TFSI also includes a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – up from 10.25-inch – three-zone climate control, and an unbranded 10-speaker, 180-watt audio system (four speakers more than before).
Under the bonnet, the A3 35 TFSI has an unchanged 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine matched to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The all-wheel-drive S3 follows the same design tweaks and added technology as the A3 while adding a more powerful version of its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, also found in the updated VW Golf R hot hatch.
Peak outputs are now rated at 245kW and 420Nm – up 17kW and 20Nm – for a 0-100km/h acceleration tome of 4.7 seconds, one-tenth of a second quicker than before, with a 250km/h top speed.
It is 0.1sec slower than the updated Golf R due to the VW’s lighter weight.
Audi has borrowed a torque-vectoring rear differential from the Golf R and the Audi RS3 to distribute torque to either rear wheel, while the new ‘dynamic plus’ drive mode will allow a “tendency to oversteer”.
Newly-added standard features for the S3 above the 35 TFSI include nappa leather upholstery with diamond stitching, black microfibre inlays, and selectable daytime running light signatures within its matrix LED headlights.
The 2025 Audi A3 and 2025 Audi S3 are due to arrive in Australian showrooms early next year, with order books now open.
