The BYD Dolphin electric hatchback will receive a facelift in 2025, new images reveal.

A new listing on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) database shows design changes coming to the small BYD following its unveiling in mid-2021.

Revisions coming to the Dolphin include larger headlights, an updated front bumper design, revised 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels, and tweaks to its tail-light and rear bumper designs.

The ‘Build Your Dreams’ script will also be replaced with a BYD badge, in line with the most recent Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 6 and Shark 6 models.

CarNewsChina reports the domestic market version of the Dolphin will grow in length to almost match the international model, measuring 4280mm compared to 4290mm for the car sold in Australia, Europe and other markets.

It is unclear if there will be any changes to the Dolphin’s interior – however it could move to the same 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen as the updated Atto 3, up from 12.8 inches in the current model.

The BYD Dolphin went on sale in Australia in mid-2023 as a rival to the MG 4 and GWM Ora – along with the Nissan Leaf and Cupra Born electric hatches – following its reveal in China two years earlier.

Priced from $36,890 before on-road costs, the entry-level BYD Dolphin Dynamic offers a 70kW/180Nm electric motor, 45kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery and 340-kilometre driving range rating based on the European WLTP lab-test standard.
