Australia's first delivery van with a plug and a fuel filler will hail from Ford, not Volkswagen, promising petrol and electric motoring.
Electric Cars
Ford is set to launch Australia's first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) delivery van with a new variant of the 2025 Ford Transit Custom, due after the middle of next year.
The Transit Custom PHEV – due in the third quarter of 2025 (July to September) – will beat its twin under the skin, the plug-in hybrid VW Multivan due from April to June 2026, to market locally.
It bridges the gap between the conventional diesel variants and upcoming fully-electric E-Transit Custom.
Prices are yet to be confirmed; the diesel line-up ranges from $56,590 to $62,990 plus on-road costs.
Powering the plug-in Transit Custom is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor for 171kW combined, plus a 11.8kWh battery for "more than 40km" of WLTP-rated electric-only driving range.
Drivers can customise the drivetrain to run on electric-only power immediately, hold charge in the battery to use later, or mix petrol and electric power as needed for optimal fuel efficiency.
More details of the 2025 Ford Transit Custom plug-in hybrid are due closer to its launch next year.
