South Korea's lesser-known car brand – KGM, formerly SsangYong – has become the latest marque to launch a Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 competitor in Australia.

A left-of-field rival to the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 has arrived in Australia, the 2026 Torres EVX from South Korea's KGM, formerly known as SsangYong.
The electric version of the mid-size, petrol and hybrid Torres SUV will be available in a single model grade priced from $58,000 drive-away nationwide, offering front-wheel drive and rated for 462km of WLTP driving range.
It is about $6000 cheaper than the least expensive Model Y and $700 less than an entry-grade Sealion 7 in NSW – as drive-away prices for these vehicles vary between state – and $1230 more expensive than the base Kia EV5 in all regions bar Western Australia.
The ute sibling to KGM's new electric SUV – the Musso EV 'lifestyle' dual-cab – is available for $2000 more, starting at $60,000 drive-away.
Measuring 4715mm long, 1890mm wide and 1725mm tall, on a 2890mm wheelbase, the Torres EVX is a mid-size SUV similar in footprint to the aforementioned rivals, with five seats.
It is powered by an 80.6kWh lithium iron phosphate battery sourced from BYD, matched with a single 152kW/339Nm electric motor driving the front wheels for the 462km driving range rating based on European WLTP testing.
DC fast charging at up to 150kW is available, for a claimed 37-minute 10 to 80 per cent recharge when connected to a 300kW charger – well above the vehicle's peak power – while 10.5kW AC capability allows for a full charge in a claimed nine hours.
Unlike the Musso EV – which carries a 420km WLTP range rating in front-wheel-drive specification – there is no all-wheel-drive option for the Torres EVX.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology allows the Torres EVX's battery to power external electrical devices.
The EVX mirrors the Torres Hybrid in offering updated frequency-selective dampers to improve comfort over bumps, as well as additional sound-absorbing materials in the engine bay, engine cover and wheel arches, following criticism of a firm ride in the petrol-powered Torres SUV.
Standard features in the Torres EVX include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, dual 12.3-inch screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather-look upholstery, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated outboard rear seats, and an electric sunroof.
It also offers a six-speaker stereo, dual-zone climate control, a power tailgate, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a broad suite of advanced safety features.
The 2026 KGM Torres EVX is available to order now.
