GWM slashes 2024 Ute prices, now cheaper than a Toyota Corolla

Private customers score the bigger $2000 discount, making the entry-level Cannon Premium $34,490 drive-away, while Australian Business Number (ABN) holders receive a discount of $1500 taking the point of entry to $32,990.

This makes the Chinese dual-cab ute more affordable than a base Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport hybrid, which starts at $32,110 before on-road costs – or about $36,290 drive-away in Victoria.

GWM’s new discount also means the Cannon Premium CC, Lux, Vanta, and top-spec Cannon-XSR are $35,990, $37,490, $41,490, and $46,990 respectively for private buyers.

With an ABN, those prices fall to $34,490, $35,990, $39,990, and $45,490 for each respective grade.

These prices are in effect until the end of the year, or while stocks last.

As a reminder, the 2024 GWM Ute line-up is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, with 120kW/400Nm sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This enables a 3.2-tonne braked towing capacity, while hill descent control and tyre pressure monitoring that is standard across the range aids in off-roading.

However, buyers will need to shell out for the top-spec Cannon-XSR for a front locking differential, underbody bash plate, steel bumpers and selectable four-wheel-drive system.

As with all new GWM models, the Ute comes with a seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, as well as five years of roadside assist and capped-price servicing over the same period.

Looking ahead, the 2025 GWM ute, which will be renamed Cannon, will sport a bigger 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine to increase braked towing capacity to a segment standard of 3500kg.

Adding to the changes next year are revisions to exterior and interior styling, as well as more in-cabin technology.
