The first new CX-5 in nine years brings more space, tech, and comfort – plus a new element set to roll out across the Mazda range.

The Mazda CX-5 is the best-selling model in the Japanese brand’s line-up – and the next-generation 2026 edition is set to be the first vehicle to adopt a new colour, Navy Blue Mica.
An evolution of the existing ‘Deep Crystal Blue Mica’, Mazda says ‘Navy Blue Mica’ was designed to add vivid saturation in highlights and deep smoothness in shadows.
The new colour will continue the brand’s long history of blue, of which it has had over 150 variations since it was adopted as a corporate symbol colour in the 1970s.
Unlike metallic paint, which is mixed with aluminium and other metal fragments, mica paint is made up of mica particles, which are silicon minerals that bring a deeper, more colourful tone.
Compared to the existing colour, Navy Blue Mica arranges the flakes horizontally, to allow the light to reflect off the paint in a more uniform way and for the colour to be highlighted in all weather conditions, according to Mazda.
The new colour will expand across the brand’s range.
Mazda has become synonymous with flagship paint on its cars.
In particular, Soul Red Crystal – the follow-up to Soul Red Premium introduced in 2012 – has been optioned onto 12.5 per cent of the vehicles it was available on in Australia last year.
The colour option was later joined by Artisan Red Premium, which was selected for approximately 12 per cent of CX-80 and CX-90s sold in 2025, the only vehicles available with the finish.
The new CX-5 is set to launch in Australia mid 2026, promising a redesigned body, new tech and expanded interior space, plus an updated 2.5-litre petrol engine, with a hybrid option to be available in 2027.
