It should come as no surprise that when you’re in the market for any Bugatti model, money is the last thing on your mind. So, imagine our shock when this eagle-eyed Reddit user spotted this Bugatti Bolide in Melbourne on June 10, 2025.
Though Bugattis are rare, this hypercar takes exclusivity to a whole new level, with the Italian car maker only producing 40 Bolide examples as an epic finale to the brand’s legendary 8.0-litre W16 quad turbo engine.
The Bugatti Bolide retailed for €4 million before on-road costs when deliveries began in 2024, which equates to approximately $AU6.2 million, or 82 Toyota Hilux GR Sport dual-cab utes.
If that retail sticker didn’t make your eyes water, the Bugatti Bolide’s on-road fees could. Though the car isn’t technically street legal, if it were, the stamp duty alone on the hypercar would cost over $500,000 in Victoria.
For reference, this two-bedroom and two bathroom apartment located in South Yarra – an inner-city suburb located approximately 4km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD – sold for $575,000 in June 2025, which puts the Bugatti Bolide’s lavish retail tag into perspective.
This specific example, posted to the What is this car Reddit thread, had enthusiasts wagging their tongues at the sight of the super rare sports car.
One commenter stated, “I dreamed of the day I would be able to afford to send ANY car anywhere, let alone a $4 million hypercar to the other side of the planet… I need a better job”.
When you consider the Bugatti Bolide’s rarity, Drive speculates this blue example that was spotted in Melbourne could be the same one that was showcased at the 2025 Adelaide Motorsport Festival early this year.
While event organisers said that was the first time the Bugatti hypercar was showcased in Australia, there's actually one other known Bolide in the land down under.
The $AU6 million luxury sports car belongs to billionaire and gambling mogul Laurence Escalante, who specced out his model in a bronze finish. Most notably, Escalante retained the factory-standard left-hand drive configuration.
In terms of dimensions, the Bugatti Bilode measures 4835mm in length, 2400mm in width, and 1047mm in height. Powering the hypercar is the French car maker's familiar 8.0-litre W16 quad turbo engine, which is also seen in the Veyron and Chiron.
According to Bugatti, the Bolide has a claimed maximum power output of 1176kW/1160Nm, with the car reaching 0-100km/h in 2.2 seconds, while the French luxury brand claims a 380km/h top speed.
Due to its incredibly powerful engine, racing-focused specifications and exclusion of required safety features typically found in normal passenger cars, the Bugatti Bolide isn't actually street legal and is only allowed to be driven on race tracks.
But if you're in the tax bracket to buy one, what's a couple of fines?
