An unconventional new car from China – an electric SUV with the rear of a ute – is coming to Australia soon with claimed sub-four-second 0-100km/h performance.

China's take on a Tesla Cybertruck – the 2025 Deepal E07 – has opened for pre-orders in Australia, ahead of customer deliveries due to commence in the third quarter of this year (July to September).
It is priced from $64,900 plus on-road costs with rear-wheel drive, or $73,900 plus on-roads for the dual-motor flagship capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.9 seconds.
The E07 is a cross between an SUV and a ute, with the car-derived underpinnings and cabin of the former, paired with the tub, tailgate and tonneau of the latter.
Deepal refers to the vehicle as a 'multitruck', as its glass tonneau and tailgate are electrically operated, so it can switch from a coupe SUV to a Cybertruck-esque ute at the press of a button.
Payload is limited to just 300kg – it's unclear if that applies to the whole vehicle, or the weight the tray can support – but the tailgate is said to be strong enough to support seated adults.
The rear-drive E07 ($64,900) is priced between a Tesla Model Y RWD and Long Range, and $11,000 dearer than the related Deepal S07 electric mid-size SUV.
The same money in a 'normal' diesel dual-cab would buy a mid-grade Ford Ranger XLT with a bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and four-wheel drive – or a BYD Shark 6 ($57,900 plus on-roads).
The all-wheel-drive E07 is priced from $73,900 before on-roads, between XLT and Sport versions of the Ranger PHEV.
Powering all E07s is an 89.98kWh ternary lithium (nickel manganese cobalt) battery pack, matched with either one 252kW/365Nm electric motor on the rear axle, or dual motors developing 440kW and 645Nm.
Deepal claims driving ranges of 642km for the RWD, and 626km for the AWD, though these are based on less stringent NEDC lab testing than the more common WLTP standard.
DC fast charging at up to 240kW through an 800-volt electrical architecture is claimed to enable a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in 15 minutes, while 0-100km/h times are rated at 6.9 seconds in the RWD, and 3.9sec in the AWD.
Only a handful of standard features have been confirmed for the E07 – these are listed below. A full specification sheet is due closer to launch.
The 2025 Deepal E07 is available to pre-order now, ahead of first deliveries between July and September.
