The fault could damage the electronic control unit wiring harness, resulting in a loss of power, according to the recall notice.
Chery Australia's subsidiary, Omoda Jaecoo, has recalled 1028 examples of its 2025 Jaecoo J7, citing a potential fault with the mid-size SUV's electronic control unit (ECU) wiring harness.
The affected vehicles are stamped 2025 models, but may have been sold at a later date.
Affected J7 variants are fitted with the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and front- or all-wheel-drive, with 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid Jaecoo J7 SHS examples – and other Chery, Jaecoo or Omoda vehicles – not involved.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wiring harness may chafe against the engine mounting bracket and become damaged.
"As a result, this could lead to a sudden loss of motive power and/or engine shutdown without warning.
"A sudden loss of motive power and/or engine shut down whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 1028 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.
Chery Motor Australia, the parent company of Omoda Jaecoo, said owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing, asking them to schedule an appointment with their dealership to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge.
Owners can contact Omoda Jaecoo Australia customer care by emailing [email protected] or by calling 1800 696 528.
