Tesla Australia has recalled 7301 examples of its 2025 Tesla Model Y, citing a potential fault with the driver's side automatic window protection function.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2025 models and affect all variants, meaning the majority of updated Model Ys sold locally are caught up in the recall.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a software issue, the driver side window’s automatic protection system may not operate as intended and result in the window closing with excessive force on any obstruction such as a body part".

There has yet to be a confirmed case of this defect leading to injury, but the recall warns, "if a body part is in the window space when the driver's side window is closing, it can increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant."

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 7301 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.

Tesla Australia has said that affected owners will be contacted in writing, and advised to download the latest software update to rectify the problem.

Owners can check their latest operating system software version by navigating to the 'Controls' menu, then 'Software' on the Model Y's infotainment system, with build 2025.25.6 or later remedying the fault.

Tesla Australia advises affected owners will not need to visit a service centre to address the fault, but concerned individuals can still contact the brand via phone (1800 646 952), email, or website.
