Certain grades of the Mazda 3 hatch and sedan will lose standard equipment in Australia for 2026.

The 2026 Mazda 3, now on sale, carries over largely unchanged from earlier models, with no new features or design revisions for the small car as it approaches its seventh birthday.

However, the G20 Evolve and G25 Evolve SP variants are no longer equipped with paddle shifters, which are now limited to the G20 Touring, G25 GT and G25 Astina grades.

The G25 Evolve SP has also lost its power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, along with reverse tilt-down, memory and driver's side auto-dimming functions for its side mirrors.

Prices remain static for the latest model, which range between $31,310 before on-road costs for the entry-level G20 Pure and $43,310 for the flagship G25 Astina.

"Minor specification changes to the Mazda 3 were made in order to keep pricing as competitive as possible – and in this scenario, we focused on ensuring these changes had the least impact on customers as possible," a Mazda Australia spokesperson said.

The Evolve grades, which cost $1800 more than the entry-level Pure in G20 form, average 34 per cent of Mazda 3 sales in Australia, behind the G20 Pure (41 per cent), but ahead of the G25 Astina (12 per cent), G20 Touring (10 per cent) and G25 GT (3 per cent).

It follows more comprehensive updates for 2024 and 2025, which saw the addition of a larger touchscreen, Mazda Connected Services, USB-C ports and a wireless smartphone charger, among other changes.

For the 2025 model, the previously optional Vision Technology safety package became standard for the G20 Touring, G25 Evolve SP and G25 GT, which continues for 2026.

All 'G20' grades feature a 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, while 'G25' editions move to a larger 139kW/252Nm 2.5-litre unit.

Hatch and sedan get fewer standard features for the same cost

All Mazda 3s feature a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, and the hatch and sedan cost the same, with 75 per cent of sales being the hatchback in Australia.

The five-star ANCAP safety rating for the Mazda 3, based on testing conducted in 2019, will expire on December 31, 2025.

The 2026 Mazda 3 is on sale now in Australia.
