Safety boost, price rises for Australia’s best-selling commercial van

Australia's best-selling light-commercial van has received an update for 2025 with improved safety technology and more standard features.

On sale now, the 2025 Toyota HiAce van adds a front-centre airbag – taking its total count to eight or 10, depending on the variant – and electric power steering, enabling lane-keep assist and an emergency driver support system.

Priced from $51,880 before on-road costs – a $2994 increase applicable across the entire line-up – the HiAce also gains safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and black side mirror caps.

Automatic versions receive an electronic parking brake, and 'full-speed' capability for its adaptive cruise control.

As before, the HiAce is offered in long-wheelbase cargo van form with a manual or automatic transmission, along with the automatic-only barn door option, long-wheelbase crew van, and super-long-wheelbase cargo van.

Toyota said electric power steering will make "manoeuvring the HiAce easier and more comfortable than ever before", while there is a new type of air-conditioning gas – R1234yf – cleaner than the R134a refrigerant it replaces.

The HiAce super-long-wheelbase cargo van with barn doors also receives "two new rear wipers", and the long-wheelbase five-seat crew van gains two side airbags.

Details of the 12-seater HiAce Commuter bus are yet to be confirmed for Australia, but it is likely to receive some of the upgrades announced for the commercial van in the coming months.

The rear-wheel-drive HiAce features a 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine developing 130kW/420Nm for the six-speed manual transmission or 130kW/450Nm for the six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2025 Toyota HiAce commercial van will arrive in Australian showrooms imminently.
