BYD tech for mid-size family SUV

A hybrid version of the 2026 KGM Actyon mid-size family SUV has joined the line-up in Australia, nine months after the arrival of the petrol-only version from the brand formerly known as SsangYong.

The Actyon Hybrid is $3000 dearer than its regular counterpart, priced from $50,000 drive-away in K50 trim – or, for a limited time, a "launch offer" of $48,000 drive-away.

It is similar in price to the entry-level version of the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid ($45,990 plus on-road costs, or an estimated $50,000 drive-away), for a larger and better-equipped vehicle.

The closely related KGM Torres Hybrid, a slightly smaller and boxier version of the Actyon, is currently listed at $43,000 drive-away on discount, down from a regular price of $45,000 drive-away.

It is powered by the same hybrid system as the Torres, combining a 110kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with dual electric motors – including a 130kW/300Nm drive motor – for 150kW combined.

It uses a 1.8kWh battery pack provided by Chinese giant BYD, and drives the front wheels through a dedicated hybrid automatic transmission.

KGM claims fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres, down from 7.6L/100km in the petrol-only model, with a requirement for 95-octane premium unleaded fuel, though E10 is also said to be compatible.

Standard features mirror the petrol-only Actyon, offering 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, leather trim, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a power tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and a rear-view camera in the base K50 grade.

The K60 flagship adds a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and retractable rear-window sun blinds.

The 2026 KGM Actyon Hybrid is on sale now, officially marked as a Model Year 2027 (MY27) vehicle, despite launching four weeks into 2026 – and being produced in 2026.
