The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV will undercut the plug-in Kia Sorento when it arrives in Australia, but battery packaging limits the family SUV to five seats.

Pricing for Skoda's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Australia has been confirmed, ahead of its imminent arrival in local showrooms.
The 2026 Skoda Kodiaq Select PHEV will be offered from $63,490 before on-road costs, $8500 more than the Select petrol grade it is based on, undercutting the similarly-sized Kia Sorento PHEV, which starts from $71,130.
However, the Kodiaq PHEV loses the petrol model's – and Sorento's – seven-seat capacity, with five seats instead due to the fitment of its high-voltage battery pack.
Skoda claims a 745-litre boot volume for the five-seat Kodiaq Select PHEV, down from 910 litres for seven-seat petrol grades when the third row is folded flat.
The PHEV swaps the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine offered in other grades – 140kW in the Select and Sportline and 195kW in the RS – for a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo familiar to the Octavia, Karoq, and other Volkswagen Group products.
It is paired with a 25.7kWh lithium-ion battery and an 85kW/330Nm electric motor for a combined 150kW and 350Nm system output, with a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.4 seconds.
Under European WLTP lab-testing, the Kodiaq Select PHEV has a 112-kilometre electric driving range rating, compared to 55 kilometres for the Sorento PHEV under the NEDC standard, which is less reflective of real-world driving conditions.
A Chery Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid is rated at 95 kilometres NEDC, while the larger Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid is rated at 170km NEDC.
The Kodiaq PHEV is capable of being charged at a DC public fast-charger at a speed of up to 50 kilowatts – which the Sorento does not allow – while it also supports 11kW AC home charging.
Standard equipment for the Select PHEV, detailed below, mirrors its petrol-engined equivalent, including an optional $6500 Signature Pack.
It remains covered by Skoda's seven-year/unlimited-killometre vehicle warranty, along with an eight-year/160,000-kilometre warranty for its high-voltage battery.
Mild-hybrid technology to cut fuel use, but not drive on electric power alone, will be added to the Skoda Kodiaq next year, with a front-wheel-drive 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder likely to sit under its current $54,990 entry price.
The Kodiaq PHEV will be joined in Australia next year by the Superb PHEV, with the same powertrain, while the brand recently expanded its electric vehicle range with the new Elroq small SUV and an expanded Enyaq mid-size SUV line-up.
