The 2026 GAC Aion UT electric hatchback will start from $31,990 before on-road costs, according to leaked details on industry database Redbook.

GAC – the newest Chinese entrant to the Australian new car market, with first deliveries in late 2025 – will announce official details on the Aion UT, including full specifications, imminently, Drive understands.

The Aion UT will join the electric Aion V medium SUV in the local GAC line-up, along with the Emzoom petrol small SUV and the M8 plug-in hybrid people mover.

According to the leaked information, the BYD Dolphin, MG 4 Urban and GWM Ora rival will be offered in two grades – Premium and Luxury – with the same battery and electric motor.

At $31,990 before on-road costs, it is positioned above the BYD Dolphin Essential, which starts from $29,990 but has a smaller battery, can not travel as far, and has a less powerful electric motor.

The Aion UT features a 60kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and a 150kW/210Nm front electric motor, with a 410-kilometre WLTP driving range rating.

Standard features will include 17-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a six-speaker audio system, surround-view cameras, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel, according to Redbook.

Other standard equipment includes climate control air-conditioning, LED exterior lighting, rain-sensing wipers, a digital instrument cluster, a tyre pressure sensor, connected satellite navigation, and power-folding side mirrors.

The Aion UT Luxury, priced from $35,990, will reportedly add ventilated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an electric tailgate, and a glass roof with an electric sunblind.

It is similar in size to a Toyota Corolla, measuring 4270mm long, 1850mm wide and 1725mm tall, with a 2750mm wheelbase and 345 litres of boot space.

Official Australian details on the 2026 GAC Aion UT electric hatchback are expected to be confirmed imminently, ahead of first customer deliveries between April and June 2026.
