Australian pricing for the 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance has been confirmed, with order books now open.

Priced from $89,400 before on-road costs, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Model Y Performance slots under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles – but it is $6500 higher than when the Performance was last offered at the start of 2025, in pre-facelift guise.

However, it remains below the Performance's $100,235 before on-road costs launch price in 2022, which was followed by a series of price decreases across the Model Y line-up, then rises for the facelifted model debuted earlier this year.

Tesla has confirmed the new Model Y Performance will be built at its Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany – which has built Model Ys for Europe since 2022 – for Australia, rather than China or the United States.

As a result, the German-built Model Y Performance has been hit with a 5 per cent import tariff, while China-built vehicles are tariff-free for Australia as a Free Trade Agreement has been signed between the two countries.

The Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range All-Wheel Drive will continue to be sourced from China for Australia, along with all Model 3 sedans, including the Performance.

As detailed when it launched in Europe in late August, the revised Performance inherits the changes applied to its sedan sibling last year, with additional design changes to further differentiate it from standard Model Ys.

With a new rear drive unit shared with the Model 3 Performance, the Model Y has more power than before, with a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds – down from 3.7sec – and an unchanged 250km/h top speed.

Adaptive suspension is now fitted, with three settings – Standard, Sport and Track – along with Pirelli performance tyres wider at the rear than the front, and 'Stability Assist' traction-control profiles with Standard, Reduced or Off settings.

Design changes include 21-inch 'Arachnid 2.0' alloy wheels with aero covers, a unique front bumper with air ducts and a lower splitter, a different rear bumper with aero inserts, black side mirror caps, and a black lip spoiler.

Inside, the Model Y Performance gains front sports seats with power-extendable under-thigh cushions and 'Ludicrous' logos below the headrests, along with carbon-fibre-look dashboard inserts.

An enlarged 16-inch touchscreen, which was introduced in the Chinese-market Model Y L, will debut in Australia in the Performance, with standard grades retaining a 15.4-inch unit.

Premium paint is included in the cost of the Model Y Performance, which is available in Pearl White Multi-Coat, Quicksilver, Ultra Red, Diamond Black and Stealth Grey, while Glacier Blue is not offered.

The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance All-Wheel Drive is on sale now, with customer deliveries expected to commence in December 2025.
