Pictures of a heavily-disguised dual-cab ute caught testing in South Korea offer a first glimpse of the new-generation KGM Musso.

Unlike the current Musso, which leans towards a more SUV-inspired design, the next generation is set to adopt a boxier profile and chunky detailing.

The styling change would bring it more into line with traditional dual-cab utes, as well as giving it a family resemblance with the angular styling seen on KGM models like the Torres and Actyon SUVs.

The car pictured here still wears bulky camouflage to obscure its styling details, but some design details are obvious, even through the padded covering.

While the current Musso is already quite square in profile, rounded edges, a sloping bonnet, and concave feature lines on the front and rear guards give it a softer look than many of its rivals.

To address this, the new Musso carries more horizontal surface detailing, in particular a flat bonnet with a bluff front end.

The black wrap reveals a horizontal running light signature at each side of the bonnet, with vertically-stacked headlights that will frame the grille.

Boxier front and rear quarter panels with flared wheel arches are expected, but padding around the bodywork keeps the final profile hidden.

A carry-over from the outgoing Musso appears at the rear of the cabin, where the rear doors look to extend past the C-pillar, suggesting the rear door opening will extend back to meet the tub as it does on the current Musso, eliminating the cabin-to-tub gap seen on most dual-cab rivals.

The design differs from that of the Musso EV concept shown by KGM in February 2025, which was based on the Torres SUV.

That concept featured a blacked-out A-pillar and a thicker side window surround on the back doors, features not seen on the ute pictured here.

While the similar naming convention may seem confusing, outside of Australia, the Musso we receive is sold as the Rexton Sports or the Kahn, although the potential exists for KGM to use the Musso name as a sub-brand for its pick-up models.

Design sketches released by KGM earlier in the year provide a stylised view of what to expect from the new model in terms of styling.

Powertrain and chassis details are less clear at this stage, but speculation from Korean media suggests the Musso will continue with an overhauled version of the Current Musso’s 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Outputs are likely to climb from the current 133kW and 420Nm maximums, and may match or exceed the Rexton’s 148kW/441Nm state of tune. The eight-speed automatic from the Rexton may also replace the current six-speed auto.

Other details, like the use of leaf or coil spring rear suspension, are still unknown.

Production timing for the new model is likely to see it debut in mid-2026, and with KGM already having defined the latest update to the current Musso as a model year 2026 version, its replacement should arrive as a 2027 model.
