The electric sedan replacement for the short-lived Mercedes-Benz EQE has been spied during testing.

Expected to launch in 2027, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class electric – likely to wear the formal title of E-Class with EQ Technology – wlll be a larger sibling to the recently-revealed GLC EV and incoming C-Class EV.

It will be a direct successor to the EQE sedan, which launched globally in 2022 but will soon reach the end of the line, according to recent reports.

The sedan's high-riding sibling, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, will also be prematurely discontinued, while the larger EQS and EQS SUV are expected to live out a full model cycle.

Overseas media reports suggest the electric E-Class, which will coexist with the combustion-engined E-Class sedan and wagon, has been fast-tracked for production.

It is a newer platform than the 400-volt EVA II architecture, which underpins the EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV.

The E-Class EV will be a rival to the BMW i5, an electric twin to the combustion 5 Series, and the Audi A6 e-tron, which is separate from the petrol, diesel and hybrid Audi A6.

Mercedes-Benz's decision to replace the EQE with an electric E-Class follows the GLC EV, which occupies the same segment as the now-discontinued EQC SUV, bringing an alignment between its internal-combustion and electric vehicles.

If the GLC EV is a guide, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz E-Class electric sedan is likely to feature a range of powertrain options, along with faster DC charging speeds and a combined 'MBUX Hyperscreen' running across its dashboard.
