The Toyota GR GT sports car follows the legacy of the 2000GT and Lexus LFA, with a newly-developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo hybrid V8.
The Toyota GR GT "road-legal race car" has debuted ahead of an expected global launch in 2027, alongside the GR GT3 race car.
Toyota says the GR GT builds on the legacy of the Toyota 2000GT and the Lexus LFA, with the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car introducing a newly-developed V8 petrol-electric hybrid engine.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder petrol engine is matched to an eight-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission and a single electric motor integrated within the rear transaxle, for a targeted output of 478kW and 850Nm "or greater".
A low centre of gravity has been achieved through a "significantly lowered" dry-sump lubrication system, rear-mounted transaxle, and other major components.
It is the first Toyota with an all-aluminium frame, which will be shared with a revived Lexus LFA with battery-electric power, revealed as a concept alongside the Toyota GR GT and GR GT3.
The reveal of the GR GT and GR GT3 comes nearly four years after the Toyota GR GT3 concept debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2022, the same event where the production-ready examples will appear during the 2026 edition next month.
Its aluminium frame, along with the use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), plastic, and other materials, has resulted in a weight for the GR GT of "1750kg or lower".
Toyota's specification list confirms a 45:55 front-rear weight distribution, 265/35ZR20 front and 325/30ZR20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, carbon-ceramic front and rear Brembo brakes, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and a 320km/h "or greater" top speed.
During the GR GT's development, ideal aerodynamic performance was established before the exterior styling was considered, with aerodynamics engineers and exterior designers working together to create the final design.
Measuring 4820mm long, 2000mm wide and 1195mm tall, with a 2725mm wheelbase, the two-door, two-seat Toyota GR GT has overall dimensions similar to a Lamborghini Revuelto.
The GR GT's interior resembles the latest Toyota and Lexus models, including the Toyota RAV4 and Lexus ES, with a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment touchscreen running the brand's new Arene software.
Its steering wheel features switches to toggle the traction control off, or adjust its driving force and braking control, and set the vehicle's drive mode, along with a 'Sport Boost' setting and paddle shifters.
The GR GT3, which meets GT3 regulations from the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), adds race-ready components, including a large spoiler, a roll cage, and unique body panels.
More details on the Toyota GT GT and GR GT3 will be confirmed closer to their expected global launch in 2027.
Toyota has not confirmed if the GR GT will be built in right-hand drive, nor if it will be offered in Australian showrooms.
