The Chery Tiggo X – based on the current Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid – has been confirmed for Australia with a non-hybrid 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Chery has confirmed it will launch another seven-seat SUV in Australia, with the Tiggo X – related to the Tiggo 8, but with a less-powerful turbo-petrol engine – due by the end of the year.
The 2026 Chery Tiggo X will join the current Tiggo 8 Pro Max and Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid in local showrooms, along with the larger Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid due in the coming months.
A facelifted version of the Tiggo 8, the Tiggo X – sold in China as the Tiggo 8 Plus – shares its structure and footprint with the existing seven-seat SUV, but features a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine instead of the Pro Max's 2.0-litre unit.
Power for the 1.6-litre turbo is officially rated at 137kW, while its torque figure is likely to be 275Nm – down from 150kW/310Nm for the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid and 180kW/375Nm for the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
With the current 2.0-litre turbo Tiggo 8 Pro Max available from $41,990 drive-away – or $38,990 including special offers – the 1.6-litre turbo Tiggo X could become one of Australia's cheapest seven-seat SUVs.
The Mahindra XUV700 from India officially holds the title of Australia's cheapest seven-seater with a $39,990 drive-away list price, or $36,990 including a limited-time offer for the XUV700 AX7.
"The Tiggo X will be coming to Australia by the end of the year," a Chery Australia spokesperson said. "Full details to be confirmed closer to [the] on-sale date."
In China, the 1.6-litre turbo Tiggo 8 Plus costs between 109,900 yuan ($AU23,500) and 139,900 yuan ($AU30,000), while a 2.0-litre turbo version is available for 159,900 yuan ($AU34,000).
Essentially, the Tiggo X is the non-plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid, which it shares its side profile and dashboard with – but the Tiggo X has a different front and rear design.
It is now available in Europe and the United Kingdom, but it is marketed as the Tiggo 8 alongside the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid, in a move thought to be mirrored in Australia before news of the Tiggo X name emerged this week.
More Australian details on the 2026 Chery Tiggo X seven-seat SUV will be confirmed closer to its launch by the end of the year.
