Ford Australia has issued three separate recalls affecting almost 36,000 cars in total, with the current Ranger, Everest, Mustang, F-150, and Transit vans included.
Almost 36,000 Ford vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2024 have been recalled in Australia for three separate faults.
According to the recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, "due to a software issue, the rear-view camera may not display the rear-view image whilst reversing as intended".
"If the rear-view camera does not operate as intended while reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to persons located behind the vehicle."
Ford Australia said it will contact owners of affected models in writing to request they make an appointment with their dealer to have their vehicles rectified at no cost.
In addition, 955 Ford Everests manufactured between 2022 and 2024 face a separate recall as their side windows may not automatically reverse when there is an obstruction.
"Due to a software issue, if a vehicle occupant places an obstruction such as a body part in the window space when the driver or passenger side windows are closing, the window may not automatically reverse and may exert an upward force greater than the design intent.
"If the driver or passenger side window auto reverse function does not operate as intended, it can increase the risk of serious injury to vehicle occupants."
Ford recalled 38,423 examples of the 2022-2024 Everest and Transit Custom for the same issue in October; however, it said an incorrect software update "may have been installed" in the 955 Everest vehicles identified in the newer recall.
A recall for 5034 examples of the 2021 to 2024 Ford Puma has also been issued due to a potential risk of a loss of power or vehicle fire.
"Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel line sleeve may chafe against the support bracket and become damaged.
"If this occurs, fuel may leak, potentially resulting in loss of motive power while driving, and if in the presence of an external ignition source may result in a vehicle fire.
"A loss of motive power or vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders and/or damage to property."
