10. BYD to take back control of its Australian operations from EVDirect
In May, Chinese car maker BYD announced it would take full control of its Australian operations, replacing third-party distributor EVDirect.
The change occurred from July 2025, and the carmaker has since launched its Denza premium sub-brand, along with four new BYD models: the Atto 1, Atto 2, Sealion 5, and Sealion 8.

Leaked patent images from August revealed the new-generation HiLux, which debuted in November and is already on sale in Australia, would step into the 2020s.
As has now been confirmed with the model now available in showrooms, the images showed the HiLux's interior would take inspiration from the current LandCruiser Prado, including a larger infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster.
