Production of the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series is set to resume for Australia with Euro 6 'Stage C' compliance, necessitating the addition of AdBlue exhaust additive.
The Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series will add AdBlue exhaust additive fluid in Australia in 2026, the brand has confirmed.
Production of the LandCruiser 70 Series has been paused for eight months from September 2025 for upgrades to meet new Euro 6 'Stage C' emissions rules mandated for all heavy-duty vehicles certified in Australia from last month.
The new Australian Design Rule (ADR) 80/04 applied to newly introduced models with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than 3.5 tonnes from November 1, 2024, and then to every new heavy-duty vehicle certified from November 1, 2025.
Earlier this year, Toyota Australia said it ordered additional LandCruiser 70 Series stock to account for the eight-month production pause.
Upgraded, Euro 6c-compliant LandCruiser 70 Series examples are expected to resume production for the Australian market around May 2026.
"We expect it to go back on sale and that'll definitely meet the Euro [6] requirements," Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley told Drive.
"It's in good demand, but it's definitely coming back," Hanley added. "It would need [AdBlue] to be Euro 6."
The Australian-market 2026 LandCruiser 70 Series is likely to feature a similar setup to Japan, which has required AdBlue exhaust additive fluid since the off-roader was re-introduced in 2023.
In Japan, the AdBlue filler is located on the front-left wheel arch, while in Australia, the current LandCruiser Prado was the first Toyota vehicle with AdBlue when it launched in 2024, stored in a separate 17.4-litre tank.
Toyota estimates the Prado can travel around 8000 kilometres before the AdBlue exhaust additive fluid needs to be refilled.
The vehicle will track its fluid levels, and warn drivers if it begins to run low on AdBlue, because if it is completely empty, the Prado's engine will not restart until the AdBlue tank is refilled.
"There will be a production pause for LandCruiser 70 to allow for changes relating to the new ADR 80/04 (emissions) that comes into effect from 1 November 2025," Toyota Australia said in a media statement earlier this year.
"The eight-month pause from September 2025 is based on the normal production cycle for this model. We have ordered additional supply so we can continue to meet demand for this rugged workhorse throughout the pause."
More Australian details on the upgraded 2026 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series will be announced closer to showroom arrivals, which are expected in the middle of next year.
The new-generation Toyota HiLux diesel ute does not require AdBlue, as it has been certified to the Euro 5 emissions rules, avoiding the separate Euro 6d requirement for light vehicles – ADR 79/05 – for new-generation vehicles certified in Australia from December 1, 2025.
It will need to meet the stricter emissions rules by July 1, 2028, when it is enforced for all new vehicles imported to Australia, with AdBlue exhaust additive fluid certain to be among the changes required.
