Less than 18 months after arriving in Australia, Volkswagen has cut pricing of its ID. Buzz electric vehicle (EV) by up to $12,000 in a bid to open up “accessibility” to its van and people mover range.

The cut applies to the full recommended retail price (RRP), following limited-time discounts offering similar reductions on the ID. Buzz since the model launched in December 2024.

The most affordable version of the ID. Buzz, the Cargo short wheelbase (SWB), is down $10,000 to $69,990 before on-road costs.

For those wanting more than just three front-row seats, the ID. Buzz Pro SWB adds a second row to accommodate a maximum of five passengers, and is now positioned at $75,990 before on-roads – a $12,000 price drop compared to before.

The ID. Buzz Pro can also be had in long-wheelbase (LWB) form, which adds a third row for seven seats in total, with pricing dropping $10,300 to $80,990 plus on-roads.

Finally, the top-spec ID. Buzz GTX – only available in LWB form – has shed $5000 from its retail price, now $104,990.

On top of the lower RRPs across the board, Volkswagen Australia has also rolled promotional drive-away pricing valid until the end of April this year, which further undercut the previous offers.

Under the promotion, the ID. Buzz Cargo can be had for $72,990 drive-away, while the SWB and LWB versions of the ID. Buzz Pro are priced at $79,990 and $84,990, respectively.

Aside from price, the four ID. Buzz grades can also be differentiated by electric motor outputs.

In the Cargo, the system punches out 210kW/550Nm, while the passenger-focused Pro grades have 210kW/560Nm.

The top-spec GTX, meanwhile, features all-wheel drive from dual electric motors, outputting a total of 250kW.

SWB models are also fitted with a 79kWh lithium-ion battery, while LWB versions have a larger 86kWh pack, enabling an all-electric driving range between 422km and 452km, depending on specification.

Last year, Volkswagen Australia reported 552 examples of the ID. Buzz people mover as sold, accounting for a third of total volume in the 'People Mover Over $70,000' segment, as classified by sales statisticians – making it the most popular model in its, albeit small, class.

The ID. Buzz Cargo, meanwhile, added 190 to VW Australia’s bottom line.

In a media release announcing the new pricing, VW states the new positioning “reflects the strong customer response to the brand’s all-electric people mover and van family”, which the German brand expects to continue.
