Mahindra’s next Australian model will be the 2025 3XO small SUV, which will make its local debut at this week’s Melbourne Motor Show.

Unveiled late last year, the 3XO is a heavily updated version of the XUV300 sold in India, and shares its roots with the defunct-in-Australia SsangYong Tivoli as the South Korean brand was under Mahindra and Mahindra ownership before being acquired by KG Group in 2022.

Overseas, the 3XO is available with a choice of three powertrains – two petrol and one diesel – which are paired to six-speed manual or automatic transmissions and send drive exclusively to the front wheels.

Opening the line-up is an 82kW/200Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol, followed by a turbocharged version that ups the ante to 96kW/230Nm.

The diesel engine meanwhile, is a 1.5-litre four cylinder delivering 86kW/300Nm.

Measuring 3995mm long, 1821mm wide, 1617mm tall and with a 2600mm wheelbase, the 3XO sizes up neatly against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, and Toyota Corolla Cross.

As Mahindra’s latest small SUV, the 3XO also boasts headline features such as a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, wireless smartphone charger, and a full suite of advanced driver safety systems.

However, Australian specification – and pricing – is still to be confirmed, but given Mahindra’s focus on the budget end of the market, the 3XO could undercut big name rivals.

Mahindra Australia will likely position the 3XO as an alternative to Chinese small SUVs like the Chery Omoda 5 (from $27,990 drive-away), GWM Haval Jolion (from $26,990), and MG ZS (from $26,990).

More details are on the 2025 Mahindra 3XO are expected soon.
