The 2025 Smart #5 Brabus electric SUV has been unveiled as a performance flagship model packing super-car rivalling power and performance which will be shown at the Shanghai motor show later this month.

The Toyota RAV4-sized Brabus edition #5 makes 475kW – up from the regular rear-wheel drive version’s 250kW – with an electric motor on each axle, enabling all-wheel drive and a 0-100km/h claim of 3.8-seconds.

It’s the most powerful, fastest Smart offered in the brand’s history.

German company Brabus has been synonymous with producing wild, high-end Mercedes-Benz and since 2003 has worked on Smart performance models, with Smart now a fifty-fifty partnership between Geely and Mercedes-Benz.

The Smart #5 (pronounced ‘hashtag five’) made its global debut in Australia last year and is due in local showrooms in the second half of 2025 – but the new hero version is yet to be confirmed for the local line-up.

Pricing and specs for the standard Smart #5 range in Australia are also yet to be revealed.

The 100kWh lithium-ion battery brings a 540km range rating (WLTP), with its 800V architecture enabling 400kW charging speeds for a 10-80 per cent top-up in around 18 minutes.

Distinguished by a more aggressive body kits including chunkier front and rear bumpers, a set of 21-inch Brabus alloy wheels and red brake calipers are finished with Brabus badging on the outside.

Contrasting roof colours – and red detailing – can be chosen from the eight-colour palette, which also includes more muted silver without race-inspired red accents.

From the driver’s seat there’s pedals, red-stitched Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.

A unique Brabus mode adds simulated engine sounds, with its 3.8-second 0-100km/h achieved when activating Launch Mode.

The cabin is dominated by LED lighting – offering 256 colour choices – and a pair of 13-inch OLED (Organic LEDs), with one for the driver and the other designed for the front passenger.

Microfibre seat trim with ‘Dinamica’ accents cover seats – which are heated and fronts and heated rears – red seat belts, a ‘halo’ glass roof and microfibre roof trim capped with Brabus interior branding.

It also has a 2000W Sennheiser Signature Sound System.

The Smart #5 Brabus goes on sale in Germany later this month from €60,900 ($AU111,000), less than a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N high-performance electric SUV at €74,900 ($AU136,500), which is priced at $111,000 plus on-road costs in Australia.
