MG Australia has increased the price of its entry-level MG 4 Excite 51 electric hatchback, while other variants have reverted to national drive-away offers.
Electric Cars
The entry cost of one of Australia's best-selling electric cars, the MG 4 hatchback, has increased from April 1 – but other variants are more affordable than before.
MG Australia has increased the national drive-away pricing for the 2025 MG 4 Excite 51 from $34,888 to $36,990 – a $2102 rise – from April 1, 2025, after it was available for as low as $30,990 between September 20, 2024 and October 31, 2024.
Pricing for the MG 4 Excite 51 increased to $32,990 drive-away until December 31, 2024, then $34,990 and $34,888 from January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025 – while drive-away prices were removed for other variants of the electric hatchback.
However MG has reverted to national drive-away offers across the MG 4 line-up from April 1, 2025, resulting in savings between $5000 and $6000 over their standard drive-away prices, before special offers are applied.
The move sees the MG 4 Excite 64 fall to $40,990 drive-away – compared to $41,990 before on-road costs – while the Essence 64 is available for $42,990 drive-away, down from $44,990 before on-road costs.
In December 2024, the MG 4 Excite 64 was available for $34,990 drive-away – but MG removed national drive-away offers from all but the base Excite 51 at the start of 2025, seeing it rise around $10,000 to between $43,704 and $45,900 drive-away.
The MG 4 Essence Long Range 77 is listed at $49,990 drive-away, while the all-wheel-drive MG 4 XPower is $55,990 – matching its recommended retail price (RRP), but with on-road costs now included in the price.
Australia's cheapest new electric vehicle is the BYD Dolphin, which retails for $29,990 before on-road costs – or around $33,000 drive-away – followed by the GWM Ora ($33,990 drive-away), the MG ZS EV ($36,888 drive-away), and the MG 4.
An updated MG 4 is expected to debut later this year ahead of an Australian launch in 2026, with changes likely to include an overhauled interior with a new infotainment touchscreen, more physical buttons, and higher-quality materials.
