Up to $5000 hike for new mild-hybrid tech

The 2025 Peugeot 2008 small SUV has gained mild-hybrid technology and extra equipment for a $2500 to $5000 price rise.

Peugeot has upgraded the 2008 less than nine months after a mid-life facelift launched earlier this year, which brought new styling, technology, and a $1000 price rise of its own.

Prices have risen by $2500 to $5000 to account for the fuel-saving technology, as well as additional equipment, including the now-standard fitment of a $2500 option pack on the outgoing petrol-only GT grade.

However, Peugeot is currently offering drive-away offers on the outgoing 2008, which mean the new model is up to $11,625 dearer than its predecessor, depending on the state and territory of registration.

Powering the 2008 Hybrid is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder aided by a small electric motor integrated into the gearbox, and a 0.9kWh, 48-volt battery pack.

The engine is said to deliver 100kW/230Nm – up 4kW on the outgoing model – matched with a new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, replacing an eight-speed torque-converter auto.

It is classified as a mild-hybrid, but unlike other systems of its type, the 2008 Hybrid is said to be capable of running on electric power at parking speeds for short distances.

It is rated for fuel consumption of 4.4L/100km – slightly higher than a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid 2WD (4.3L/100km) – and CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometre, down from 5.4L/100km and 123g/km.

Until this year's facelift, two of the three 2008 model grades used a six-speed torque-converter auto which required even more fuel and emitted more CO2 – 6.5L/100km and 148g/km.

New features for the base 2008 Allure include a wireless phone charger – previously on higher grades only – while the GT gains 18-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof, both previously included in a $2500 option pack.

The 2025 Peugeot 2008 Hybrid is available to order now.
