More power, technology and space are on the menu for the new Volkswagen Tayron, the replacement for the Tiguan Allspace that will match up against the Kia Sorento.
Volkswagen's next-generation large family SUV – the 2025 Tayron – will be offered with four model grades and a choice of five or seven seats when it arrives in local showrooms this September.
The Tayron replaces the Tiguan Allspace, and is the stretched version of the latest five-seat Tiguan, with similar engines and technology but more space inside.
Hybrid power will not be available at launch, rather a choice of two turbocharged petrol engines offered with up to 195kW.
Prices are yet to be confirmed, but it's expected to command a premium above the Tiguan, which starts from $44,990 plus on-road costs for the 110TSI Life, and tops out at $70,490 for the 195TSI Life.
The outgoing Tiguan Allspace was priced from $43,990 to $60,590 plus on-road costs.
Measuring 4770mm long, 1852mm wide and 1660mm tall, on a 2791mm wheelbase, the Tayron is slightly longer and wider than the Tiguan Allspace, but shares its distance between the front and rear wheels.
It is about 230mm longer nose to tail, and 114mm between the wheel axles, than the five-seat Tiguan.
Seven seats are standard in all models bar the 150TSI Life, which uses its five-seat layout to unlock slightly more space behind the second row of seats, at 885 litres against 850L.
Powering the base 110TSI Life is a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Models badged 150TSI upgrade to a 150kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with the same gearbox and all-wheel drive, while the 195TSI R-Line ups outputs from the 2.0-litre engine to 195kW/400Nm.
The 2.0-litre engines are up on the 132kW and 162kW tunes offered in the outgoing Tiguan Allspace, while the 1.4-litre unit has no more power but upgrades from a six-speed auto to a seven-speed.
Standard features in the base model include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch instrument display, LED headlights, 18-inch alloys, keyless entry and start, a power tailgate, 360-degree camera, and a suite of advanced safety systems.
Extra features over the outgoing Tiguan Allspace 110TSI Life include a larger touchscreen (up from 8.0 inches), 360-degree camera, and power tailgate.
Adaptive suspension is offered on all-wheel-drive models, while higher grades add 19- or 20-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, a 15-inch touchscreen, leather trim, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, and more.
The 2025 Volkswagen Tayron is due in Australian showrooms in September, possibly as a Model Year 2026 vehicle, rather than 2025.
