While the new entry-level Tiguan will have increased levels of standard equipment, don't expect a big jump in price over the current model.

The new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan medium SUV will be priced ‘very close’ to the current ten-year old model, according to recent comments from a Volkswagen product planner.

This is despite the new 2025 Tiguan – which is due to arrive mid-year –  getting a higher level of standard equipment and technology across the range.

The current Volkswagen Tiguan, which first launched around ten years ago (pictured below), is priced from $43,990 plus on-road costs for the Tiguan 110TSI Life, while the range extends to the $60,590 for the Tiguan 162TSI R-Line (excluding seven-seat Allspace variants).

The forthcoming new Tiguan will have a tweaked range of variants offered, with three different turbocharged petrol engines offered along with three different trim levels: Life, Elegance and R-Line.

The entry-level powertrain remains the same at 110TSI, but 132TSI and 162TSI powertrains will be replaced by more powerful variants of the same non-hybrid engine family: 150TSI and 195TSI with 150kW and 195kW respectively.

According to a recent press release, the entry-level Tiguan 110TSI life will get standard equipment that includes 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, power tailgate, a 360-degree camera system, a digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wireless charging and digital radio.

This comes amid lowered entry prices for the recently released Volkswagen Touareg large SUV and Golf hatch, as well as the pricing for the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV coming in lower than originally expected.

PierGiorgio Minto – new director for Volkswagen passenger vehicles – explained this is part of Volkswagen’s strategy in Australia to grow market share in an increasingly competitive landscape.

The updated 2025 Volkswagen Touareg launched recently with lower prices and higher specification levels in Australia, and the 2025 Volkswagen Golf arrived with a lower entry price.

“We would like to follow this strategy at the moment: customer oriented content… a car that really fits the market. And – call it an affordable price –I would say a price that is right for the market.” Minto said.

“We don’t want to play around with residual values, losses or this kind of stuff. So we think it’s a good strategy to have a solid product with a solid price, that is also giving some customer satisfaction for a long time.”

When asked whether there was any possibility of ‘sharpening the pencil’ further for the incoming Volkswagen Tiguan, Arjun Nidigallu, National product manager for Volkswagen Australia said, “The pencil’s been sharpened for a while now, I don’t think there is any more sharpening that is required. It’s going to be very close to the current Tiguan.”
