The 2026 Jaecoo J5 will add two entry-level petrol variants to the current electric line-up from June, priced from $25,990 drive away.

The Chery spin-off will fit Jaecoo's sibling to the Chery Tiggo 4 with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a continuously-variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Unlike the electric version, which is only available in one top-of-the-range Summit grade, the petrol J5 is sold in a choice of entry-level Track trim, for $25,990 drive-away, or the Summit, for $29,990 drive away.

A starting price of $25,990 drive away is $2000 higher over the entry-level Tiggo 4 Urban at $23,990 drive away, but undercuts a Corolla Cross GX hybrid at $37,440 plus on-road costs, and the Hyundai Kona petrol at $33,700 plus on-roads.

The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder produces 108kW/210Nm, down from the 155kW/288Nm quoted for the EV.

Jaecoo claims WLTP fuel consumption of 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres, with international specifications listing a 51-litre fuel tank.

A 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard across the range, with wired and wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an 8.8-inch instrument display.

A 360-degree camera can be found as standard across the two grades, as well as a broad suite of safety features similar to what is found in the electric version.

Dusk-sensing LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a voice command system, and 18-inch alloy wheels – in different designs, depending on variant – are also shared specifications.

The Summit mirrors the electric version with features such as a panoramic roof, power-operated tailgate, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, and synthetic leather-look upholstery.

Both trim levels will be covered by an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, an eight-year capped price servicing plan, and roadside assistance.

With 15,000km/12-month intervals, the first three services are quoted at $1017, while the first five will cost $1675.
