A new version of one of Australia's newest Chinese family SUVs offers more power than a BMW M3 for a third of the price.

Leapmotor has launched an all-wheel-drive version of its C10 electric mid-size SUV with 600 horsepower – or 440kW – for a lower price than a Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch.
The C10 AWD Sports+ Special Edition is due in showrooms in April, priced from $53,888 before on-road costs – $4000 more than the rear-wheel-drive Design variant below it.
It uses dual motors producing 440kW and 760Nm combined, more than double the power of the regular C10's 160kW/320Nm, and enough to sprint from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in a claimed 4.0 seconds.
It has more power than every new BMW M3 – which produces 353kW to 405kW from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine – at a fraction of its $169,900 to $253,900 price.
Leapmotor says the C10's computers determine if one – presumably the rear motor, as it is a rear-drive-based vehicle – or both electric motors are needed at any given time.
The all-wheel-drive C10 upgrades to an 800-volt electrical system and a larger 81.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack – up from 400V and a 69.9kWh battery – capable of a WLTP driving range rating of 437km, up from 420km.
It is said to accept a 180kW charge rate with a DC fast charger, which will replenish the battery from 30 to 80 per cent capacity in as little as 22 minutes.
The all-wheel-drive C10 is available in two paint and sticker combinations: Pearl White with black Sports+ side decals, or Metallic Black with grey Sports+ side decals.
Other additions include model-specific badges, unique Sports+ floor mats with red stitching, and an embroidered cargo mats. There is no mention of changes to suspension, tyres or brakes.
The battery-electric performance SUV is now available to order ahead of showroom arrivals in April, priced from $53,888 before on-roads.
