An updated 2027 Mazda 3 is now on sale in Europe ahead of Australian arrivals expected later this year, with no major design changes from its late 2018 debut.
The 2027 Mazda 3 hatch and sedan have been announced for Europe, hinting at changes likely to reach Australia this year – but revisions to its nearly eight-year-old design are not among the differences.
On sale now in Europe ahead of potential Australian showroom arrivals in late 2026, the Mazda 3 continues to look almost identical to the first examples of the current, fourth-generation model, unveiled in 2018.
New for the 2027 model are revised adaptive LED headlights – currently limited to the G25 Astina flagship grade in Australia – with pedestrian marker lighting and reduced brightness when the vehicle is stopped at traffic lights to prevent glare.
Selected grades in Europe also receive new, darker 'gunmetal' interior trim, replacing the current silver trim, and intelligent speed limit assist, which links the adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition to automatically adjust to the detected speed limit.
In Europe, all 2027 Mazda 3s gain intersection and motorcycle autonomous emergency braking (AEB) detection – joining vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle – and improved motorcyclist detection for the blind-spot monitoring system when changing lanes.
There is also a new Aero Grey metallic paint finish, already seen on the MX-5, Mazda 2, Mazda 6e, CX-3, CX-6e and new-generation CX-5, replacing Mazda's current Ceramic and Zircon Sand colours in the 3.
A driver attention camera is now standard across the range in Germany, along with secondary braking following a collision.
While the Mazda 3 has gone nearly eight years without major design changes, it is not alone in the small car segment, with the Toyota Corolla hatch launched a few months earlier than the Mazda, followed by the Corolla sedan.
The Hyundai i30 hatchback – currently limited to i30 N guise in Australia after the standard model was axed late last year – also dates back to 2017, but it is expected to receive its third facelift in Europe later this year, potentially with the addition of a full-hybrid powertrain.
The Mazda 3 hatch and sedan were last updated in Australia in late 2025, when standard equipment was deleted from the G20 Evolve and G25 Evolve SP mid-spec grades, with no price changes.
"Minor specification changes to the Mazda 3 were made in order to keep pricing as competitive as possible – and in this scenario, we focused on ensuring these changes had the least impact on customers as possible," a Mazda Australia spokesperson said in November 2025.
The Mazda 3 is currently priced between $31,610 and $43,610 before on-road costs in Australia.
