After celebrating 40,000 sales in Australia last March, BYD Australia has announced it has now hit 100,000 customer deliveries.

Australia's current largest Chinese carmaker has hit 100,000 cumulative sales, three-and-a-half years after it delivered its first vehicle.
BYD Australia has announced its 100,000 new-vehicle delivery, a Shark 6 ute, which occurred in Brisbane, Queensland, this month, just over 12 months after it celebrated its 40,000th sale in March 2025.
Since it launched in Australia in 2022 with the Atto 3 electric small SUV, BYD's local line-up has expanded to six electric models and five plug-in hybrid models, covering Australia's best-selling vehicle segments.
BYD's largest growth so far occurred last year, with a 156.2 per cent increase in sales from 20,418 in 2024 to 52,415 in 2025, following the launch of its two best-selling models, the Sealion 7 and Shark 6.
The carmaker also switched to a factory-owned distribution model in mid-2025, taking over from third-party distributor EVDirect.
So far in 2026, 17,541 BYD vehicles have been reported as sold, a 9.9 per cent increase from the same time last year, which could result in the brand selling nearly 60,000 cars by the end of the year.
BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins said the brand's growth since it launched in 2022 "has been remarkable".
"Australian motorists want stylish, practical and affordable new energy vehicles, now more than ever. It's our pleasure to hand over our 100,000th vehicle today," Collins said.
"With over 100 sales and service centres around Australia, and growing, we’re proud to be building a national network that will support all BYD owners. We have exciting plans for continued growth in Australia."
At last weekend's 2026 Melbourne motor show, BYD Australia confirmed the imminent launch of the Seal 6 plug-in hybrid sedan and wagon, Shark 6 cab-chassis, and Shark 6 Performance with a 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity.
Other recent model launches from BYD also include the Atto 1 hatchback – Australia's cheapest electric car – the Atto 2 electric SUV, and Sealion 5 and Sealion 8 plug-in hybrid SUVs.
BYD's luxury Denza brand is also now available in Australia, offering the B5 and B8 off-road plug-in hybrid SUVs and the D9 electric people mover, with the Z9 GT electric 'shooting brake' wagon set to follow by the end of this year.
The Sealion 7 (4468) is Australia's second-best-selling electric vehicle so far in 2026, behind the Tesla Model Y (5897), while the Shark 6 (3480) has outsold familiar names such as the Volkswagen Amarok (1104), Nissan Navara (1602), Mazda BT-50 (3113) and GWM Cannon (3131).
