Ferrari is tipped to be on the verge of reintroducing manual transmissions to its supercars after close to 20 years, a new report has claimed.

If accurate, it would represent a stunning backflip on comments less than 12 months ago ruling out a return to manuals, and directing customers interested in a three-pedal Ferrari to its classic cars.

Citing insider sources, specialist website TheSupercarBlog – which has a track record of obtaining accurate information on new exotics prior to their reveals – claims Ferrari plans to introduce a gated manual version of the 12Cilindri.

It will reportedly be revealed as early as July, and sold in limited numbers to the Italian supercar brand's top clients.

The 6.5-litre V12-powered 12Cilindri is set to be the brand's first manual since 2007, when 30 limited-edition examples of the 599 GTB came with a six-speed gated manual, following three-pedal versions of the earlier 575M Maranello and Superamerica.

TheSupercarBlog claims Ferrari is aware of a market for V12 'GT' supercars with a manual gear stick and third pedal, hinted at by high demand and record auction prices seen by V12 manual Ferraris on the collectors' market.

The return to manual transmissions would be a relative U-turn on comments by Ferrari chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera to the UK's Evo in July 2025.

"The manual gearbox, we already have it, in many of our classic cars. You can go and drive our fantastic manual gearboxes on our fantastic events for our classic cars," the executive said.

"Whoever wants to have this kind of classic experience, they can buy and restore our fantastic classics and come to our events. We have it, we push our clients to discover the beauty of driving a classic car.

"We offer Corsa Pilotti on classic cars because many people don’t know how to use the manual cars. It’s an important experience that we can offer on our classic cars for the time being."

Although the new manual will reportedly be reserved for customers high up in Ferrari's ranks, it may still cost more than the standard 12Cilindri, which is priced from $803,500 to $886,800 plus on-road costs in Australia, across both its Coupe and Spider Variants.

The 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine currently produces 610kW/678Nm in combination with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, and claims a zero to 100km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds.
