Massive discounts have dropped thousands of dollars from prices of Kia's struggling Tasman ute, bringing the flagship variant down to the price of a tradie-spec Ford Ranger V6.
Kia has slashed prices across top-selling versions of the Tasman by up to $13,000, in the most significant savings for its dual-cab ute since it arrived in Australia nearly 12 months ago.
The drive-away discounts apply to 2025-built Tasman dual-cab pick-ups – understood to cover a considerable portion of the Kia utes at dealers around Australia – and are available until 30 June 2026, unless extended.
The off-road-focused Tasman X-Pro is the recipient of the $13,000 cut, now $64,990 drive-away – cheaper than the mid-grade SX+ prior to the significant discounts.
Purchasing any Tasman variant in Western Australia adds $1000 to the prices listed throughout this story.
The X-Pro is now similar in price to the cheapest Ford Ranger V6 dual-cab 4x4 pick-up, the XL (an indicated $64,698 drive-away in NSW), which has steel wheels, cloth seats, halogen headlights and far fewer features.
An Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is $69,990 drive-away, even after a special offer that cuts about $9000 off the regular price, depending on where the vehicle is registered.
The one-rung-down X-Line is $11,500 cheaper, now $59,990 drive-away, in a more significant saving than the $3000 discount – excluding free accessories – offered for a brief period in recent months.
The SX+ is down from $66,490 to $54,990 drive-away, while the SX is now $51,990 drive-away, down from an indicated $58,490 drive-away in all states and territories bar Western Australia.
| Model | RRP | Previous drive-away | New drive-away | Change |
| S 4x2 | $42,990 | $42,990 | $42,990 | None |
| S 4x4 | $49,990 | $49,990 | $49,990 | None |
| SX 4x4 | $54,490 | $58,490 | $51,990 | Down $6500 |
| SX+ 4x4 | $62,390 | $66,490 | $54,990 | Down $11,500 |
| X-Line 4x4 | $67,990 | $70,990 | $59,990 | Down $11,000 |
| X-Pro 4x4 | $74,990 | $77,990 | $64,990 | Down $13,000 |
Unchanged from special offers introduced in recent months is the S grade, priced from $42,990 drive-away with 4x2 or $49,990 drive-away with 4x4.
When the Tasman arrived in showrooms in July last year, these variants were priced from $46,490 and $53,890 drive-away, respectively.
No special-offer prices apply to single-cab chassis and dual-cab chassis versions of the Tasman, bar a $39,990 drive-away deal on the base single-cab Tasman S for ABN holders, about $6000 cheaper than the private-buyer price in NSW.
The significant discounts come amid slow sales of the Tasman, with just 320 reported as sold last month, compared to 3661 Ford Rangers and 2835 Toyota HiLuxes – compounded by high fuel prices.
"There's value add considerations, there's finance considerations. There's a host of things that we can do and have done," Kia Australia CEO Damien Meredith told Drive last month.
"But we've got to get the right mix, fix the curriculum, so to speak, to make sure that we're lifting sales and that that nameplate is growing."
Meredith said at the time that "we believe there are other levers that we need to pull before we pull the price lever," but it appears his remark may apply to permanent cuts to the RRP before on-road costs, rather than drive-away offers.
