Toyota and Lexus have requested more than 130,000 late-model cars return to their dealers to resolve a potential fault with the surround-view camera.
Toyota and Lexus have asked the owners of more than 130,000 vehicles in Australia to return to their dealers to resolve a potential fault.
A 'customer service exercise' has been initiated for the late-model Toyota and Lexus vehicles, built between 2021 and 2025, to resolve a potential issue with their surround-view camera, which could freeze or fail to display.
Toyota has recalled 108,862 vehicles, while 27,490 Lexus examples are affected, totalling 136,352 in Australia.
According to the brands, the software of the parking assist ECU, a component of the surround-view camera, could cause the rear-view image to "freeze briefly" or not display on the next ignition.
"The subject vehicles are equipped with a Parking Assist ECU, which is a component of the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system that displays the rear-view image," the brands said.
"The software in this ECU may cause (1) the rearview image to freeze briefly during the backing event if reverse is selected within a specific time after ignition is turned on.
"Or (2) the rearview image not to display on the next ignition on if the ignition is turned on and off within a specific time."
To resolve the issue, Toyota and Lexus will reprogram the vehicle's parking assist ECU free of charge, with the inspection and reprogramming work expected to take approximately one hour.
However, the brands warn owners may be required to make their vehicle available for a longer period of time depending on their dealer's work schedule.
Toyota and Lexus said they will contact affected owners in writing to request they make an appointment with their nearest dealer.
Affected owners can contact Toyota by calling 1800 387 366 on Mondays to Fridays between 8:00am and 6:00pm AEDT, while Lexus can be contacted at 1800 023 009.

A customer service exercise is separate from a vehicle safety recall, which a carmaker must report to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.
