2016 Holden Commodore was the most stolen car in Victoria in 2025, new data reveals

The most stolen car in Victoria was the 2016 Holden Commodore in 2025, with 119 reported stolen in the first nine months of the year according to data from Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency (CSA). 

The top five most stolen cars are the 2016 Holden Commodore (119 stolen), 2019 Toyota Corolla (109 stolen), 2024 Toyota RAV4 (102 stolen), 2021 Toyota Corolla (81 stolen), and 2024 Toyota RAV4 (80 stolen).

Overall, 1035 Holden Commodores were stolen in Victoria in the first nine months of 2025, with the most stolen model-years being 2016 (119 stolen), 2017 (76 stolen), 2014 (50 stolen), 2015 (49 stolen) from the VF generation, and 2003 (34 stolen) VY examples.

The second most stolen Holden Commodore, and the seventh most stolen car in Victoria, is the 2017 Holden Commodore. The 2017 Holden Commodore was the last ever Commodore to be manufactured in Australia.

2016 Holden Commodore

The 2017 Holden Commodore was also one of the lowest ever selling Commodores built in Australia. According to VFACTS data 23,676 Commodores were sold in 2017, compared to 25,860 Commodores sold in 2016.

The 2016 and 2017 Commodores are some of the last vehicles ever made in Australia, with Australian Commodore production ceasing in 2017.

The Toyota Corolla, the most registered vehicle in Victoria, was the second most stolen vehicle in Victoria in the first 9 months of 2025 with 829 reported stolen.

The most top five most stolen Toyota Corolla models were the 2019 model (109 stolen), the 2021 Corolla (81 stolen), 2020 Corolla (78 stolen), and 2022 Corolla (61 stolen).

However, Drive has identified some inconsistencies in the stolen vehicle data collected by Victoria Police, such as incorrectly named vehicles. These incorrect vehicles include multiple instances of a 'Toyota Lantra' and a 'Mazda Elite' being stolen. 

Neither Toyota nor Mazda have ever sold a car under these names in Australia. Drive has spoken with Victoria Police for clarification regarding these inconsistencies, which are detailed further here.
