Nismo has expanded its services outside of Japan to Australia as a means of factory support for restoration of historic Nissan Skyline GT-R models.
Victoria will become home to one of the first Nismo Performance Centres outside of Japan with the Nissan-backed plan to open a dealership off the back of Nissan Ferntree Gully.
Following in the footsteps and backed by the Omri Factory in Yokohama, Japan, the Ferntree Gully centre will focus solely on the restoration, restomod, and part supply of R32, R33, and R34 Skyline GT-R models.
“Australia is a natural priority because of its mature performance culture, strong GT-R community and clear appetite for authentic Nismo heritage, performance parts, technical expertise and motorsport-driven experiences,” said Nismo CEO, Yutaka Sanada.
The news of Nismo’s global expansion comes after the brand’s commitment to remanufacturing parts for historical models under the Nismo Heritage Parts scheme, including RB26 engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, and other hard-to-find components.
Australia makes up around 36 per cent of all R34 GT-R exports, and around 20 per cent of R33 GT-R exports as of 2026.
“We need to make sure that we follow these cars so that those owners can keep them maintained, modified, and restored,” said Nissan Australia aftersales director Michael Hill.
“By bringing the what already exists to, in, in Japan to Australia, we can continue to support those customers.”
Despite international offerings seeing five new Nismo models offered to customers, Australians only have the choice of a Nismo Z, with a power upgrade and suspension changes.
Whether the opening of the Nismo factory will facilitate the importation and sales of other Nismo models is yet to be announced, with the brand saying it will primarily focus on historic models.
While the Ferntree Gully store is set to open in the second half of 2026, Nismo has plans to open other dealerships around the country, including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and further expanding out to Auckland, New Zealand.
“Our next expansion would definitely be to Sydney because that's the next biggest one. Sydney's more well catered by a lot of high-end tuning shops, Melbourne hasn't got as many, so that makes more sense,” said Hill.
Further announcements on the opening date will be made in the second half of this year.
