Porsche Macan buyer’s guide

The Porsche Macan has been a major success for the brand, and is its top-selling model. It is already showing strong performance this year with 758 Macans sold up until the end of March 2025.

While it’s not the top-selling model in its segment, the Macan proves a popular choice with buyers who want a Porsche but need a vehicle with more seats and practicality.

Now offered solely in electric form, the Macan blends the modernity of EV motoring with that inherent Porsche driving experience and has a long list of luxury appointments that buyers in this segment are looking for.

Like what you see? Here's everything you need to know to buy the Porsche Macan that is right for you!

How much is the Porsche Macan?

There are four variants in total of the Porsche Macan – all of which are fully-electric, with the petrol model phased out.

The range starts at $128,400 for the base Macan Electric RWD which has a single 250kW rear motor connected to a 100kWh battery pack for up to 654km of claimed WLTP driving range.

At the top of the line-up, the AWD Macan Turbo Electric has a price tag of $184,400 and uses two motors – one on each axle – with the same battery pack for a claimed of 590km WLTP. Both prices exclude on-road costs.

All except the Macan Turbo cost less than our $50K cap, and were therefore eligible.

The entry-level Porsche Macan comes with features such as adaptive dampers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power steering ‘plus’, 14-way power-adjustable 'comfort' front seats with memory, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and an electrically-operated charging flap, to name a few.

The Porsche Macan is supported by Porsche's three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

What colours is it available in?

There's an extensive range of colours available for the luxury SUV.

Standard colours include just Black or White, but for an extra $1800 you can choose from four ‘Shades’ which include; Jet Black Metallic, Ice Grey Metallic, Volcano Grey Metallic and Dolomite Silver Metallic.

Then there are four further ‘Dreams’ colours for an added $2880, which include; Provence (purple), Gentian Blue Metallic, Frozenblue Metallic, and Papaya Metallic.

The next step up is a choice of four ‘Legends’ colours for an extra $5470, which include; Oak Green Metallic Neo, Aventurine Green Metallic, Copper Ruby Metallic, and Slate Grey Neo.

And if that’s still not enough, for a further $18,310 you can choose your own from a list of dozens of Exclusive Manufaktur colours.

There’s also a healthy choice of 20-, 21- or 22-inch wheel styles, as well as various interiors.

As standard, you can only have Black cloth, but for $430 you can also have a two-tone Black and Chalk Beige cloth.

Stepping up to the Leather Package offers a choice of five more interiors, four of which are two-tone for $3350, and one that is Black for $2920.

Adding more leather through the Leather Package with ‘extensive items in leather’ costs another $6820 for just Black, or $7620 for the other three two-tone options.

Lastly, a Club Leather in Truffle Brown costs $7960.

Which variant do we recommend?

The Drive judges recommend the Porsche Macan 4 Electric, which starts at $134,400 plus on-roads. This model combines the 100kWh battery pack with two electric motors and all-wheel drive offering a claimed WLTP driving range of 613km.

With plenty of change in your pocket, we recommend adding a few options, including Gentian Blue Metallic paint for $2880, 21-inch Macan Design wheels ($3960), the Leather Package – choosing the two-tone Black and Crayon interior ($3350), adaptive air suspension ($2830), and a panoramic roof ($3110).

That brings the total to $150,530 before on-roads – a smidge over the $150K limit but we’ll allow it.

What is the best deal on a Porsche Macan?

There are currently 14 Porsche dealers across Australia, as well as the PorscheStudio in Brisbane.

The majority of dealerships have a Macan 4 available to view at the moment, and Porsche has told Drive that current and new orders can be fulfilled in around five months, but the wait time will depend on the specifications chosen.

You can find plenty of new and used Hyundai vehicles available now from dealers around Australia on Drive Marketplace.
