Fans of Japanese car culture need no introduction to Rays Wheels.

The company is responsible for what might be one of the most iconic aftermarket alloy wheel designs, and this year that design turns 30.

To cement just how important the TE37 is on the global stage, the Japan Anniversary Association has recognised 7 March (3/7) as TE37 Day.

The TE37’s name comes from the wheel’s breakthrough construction at the time, with a weight of ‘around’ 3.7kg for a 15x6-inch wheel, according to Rays, with TE standing for Touring Evolution.

In 1997, the range was expanded with the addition of 16-inch sizes, with lightweight magnesium versions released in 1998 and a strengthened off-road version added in 1999.

A range of over 40 different variants of the basic six-spoke TE37 design is now available.

Regardless of the application, all TE37 variants maintain one-piece forged construction, ranging in size from 13-inch applications, suited to kei cars, up to 23-inch wheels for heavyweight EVs and high-performance applications.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary, Rays is launching three commemorative TE37 designs, based on the TE37 Sonic, TE37 Saga S=Pus, and off-road TE37 Ultra Large PCD.

The commemorative edition wheels will be available in a choice of bronze ot white finishes.

The 30th anniversary wheels will feature a ‘30th anniversary’ logo machined into the wheel lip, and a choice of ‘Volk Racing Wheels’ and ‘Rays Engineering’  in either a machined finish or as a black decal on bronze wheels, with a blue decal on white wheels.

A carbon-fibre effect sticker with Volk Racing TE37 30th anniversary’ text is also included.

Other 30th anniversary TE37 merchandise launching alongside the commemorative wheels include t-shirts, keyrings, lapel pins, and a rubber duck (no, really) wearing a racing helmet.
