A price cut may be on the horizon for the 2026 Skoda Enyaq electric SUV when it is given a facelift later this year, just nine months after arriving in showrooms in its current form.

A conventional SUV 'wagon' body shape has been confirmed for the updated Enyaq, joining the sloping-roof 'Coupe' version launched by Skoda in Australia late last year.

The less sleek body style is set to carry a lower price tag, but there may be further price cuts on the way to close the $15,000 gap between the base $69,990 Enyaq and its smaller, closely-related $54,990 Elroq sibling.

"There will be a proportional distance that will reflect the size of the car, and also the higher equipment and specifications of the car," Skoda Australia boss Lucie Kuhn said of the facelifted Enyaq.

Asked if there are plans to use the Enyaq's facelift to close the gap to the Elroq, she said: "Compared to today's prices? Yes."

Skoda Australia spokesman Daniel DeGasperi added: "I mean, one key point is this SUV versus coupé body style.

"So we'll continue with coupé body style, but we'll add SUV which will obviously attract a lower positioning [and price]."

The Elroq is smaller than the Enyaq, but the two share many of their body panels – including the cabin, doors and bonnet – and share their battery pack and electric motor.

The $15,000 price difference between the base versions of the vehicles is also a result of varying equipment levels.

The entry-level Enyaq is a Sportline, offering larger 21-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, a glass roof, power tailgate, power-adjustable driver's seat, microfleece and leather-look upholstery, and a third climate-control zone absent from the base Elroq Select.

In their best-equipped, rear-wheel-drive forms, the Elroq costs $64,990 plus on-road costs, while the Enyaq 'Coupe' is $75,990.

If the related Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 are a guide, the new 'SUV' version of the Enyaq could cost $3000 less than its sleeker sibling – but further price changes could come in the form of a not-as-well-equipped Select model grade.

"We are just right now having a discussion about the proportions so to say, because we are speaking about two different cars," Kuhn said, when asked if a Select variant is planned.

"So we are actually creating right now a concept that would be suitable for two different customer groups."

The current Enyaq is winding down ahead of the introduction of a facelift due around September – pending any delays – which is unchanged mechanically, but brings revised styling, updated infotainment and new features.

It quotes longer driving ranges than before, thanks to improvements in the car's aerodynamics.

"[Selling out of the current] Enyaq is actually running quite okay. We have something like 80 units to go, so it's pretty smooth, I would say. We still have time, until August," the Skoda Australia boss said.

She told Drive the brand aims for Enyaq and Elroq sales to be even, at about 600 to 700 examples of each.
