The software fault could cause the 12-volt battery to stop working, according to the recall notice.
Kia Australia has recalled 4551 examples of its 2021-2024 Kia EV6, citing a potential software fault with the affected vehicles.
The affected vehicles are stamped 2021 to 2024 models but may have been sold at a later date.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue, the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may develop an internal fault causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and the 12 Volt battery to stop charging.
“This could result in a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power may occur if the warning lights are ignored which could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 4551 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here, and the recall notice states that this new recall supersedes an earlier notice issued on 16 April 2024.
Kia Australia advised affected owners to immediately contact and schedule an appointment with their closest Kia dealership to have the ICCU inspected and replaced if required. Additionally, the ICCU software will be updated and all repairs will be performed free of charge.
