Hyundai has applied the learnings of its TCR race cars to the i30 Sedan N with a new special-edition variant to launch in 2025 to celebrate the racing series.
The 2025 Hyundai i30 Sedan N TCR Edition has debuted as a tribute to the racing series the brand competes in.
Known as the Elantra N in other markets – or Avante N in South Korea – the TCR Edition version of the Hyundai i30 Sedan N performance model adds a lightweight carbon-fibre swan neck spoiler similar to the Elantra N TCR race-car.
The special-edition model takes learnings from Hyundai’s involvement in the Touring Car Racing (TCR) series – including the TCR World Tour and TCR Australia – where it currently fields an Elantra N race-car.
A replacement for the smaller, fixed-position spoiler in standard i30 Sedan N models, the angle of the larger spoiler in the TCR Edition can be adjusted for “optimal downforce settings for various driving conditions and preferences”.
Further changes for the TCR Edition include lightweight 19-inch N TCR forged alloy wheels, N Performance four-piston brakes, an Alcantara steering wheel with a Performance Blue top marker, Performance Blue seat belts, and TCR Edition badging.
Exclusive to the South Korean market are TCR Edition side decals.
There are no changes to its powertrain, retaining the same 206kW/392Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine exclusively sending power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A Hyundai Australia spokesperson told Drive the brand is “keen” to offer the i30 Sedan N TCR Edition with a launch in 2025 likely, however, it has not been locked-in for Australia.
“Hyundai Motor has incorporated the experience and expertise accumulated in motorsports into Elantra N TCR Edition,” said Hyundai N Brand vice president Joon Park.
“We will continue to enhance the DNA of Hyundai N, so that N-thusiasts can experience the thrill of motorsports in their daily lives.”
Hyundai Motor entered the TCR World Tour – formerly the TCR International Series and the World Touring Car Cup – in 2017 with the then-new i30 N hatchback, which was replaced by the Elantra N TCR from the 2021 season.
The Elantra N TCR race-car uses a 261kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending power to the front wheels though an X-trac six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.
In the local TCR Australia championship, race driver Josh Buchan has won the 2023 and 2024 seasons in the i30 Sedan N TCR – after Will Brown won the inaugural 2019 season with the i30 N TCR hatch.
It was restricted to 800 units worldwide – including 180 in Australia – adding dark bronze exterior trim, unique badging, red interior accents, and exclusive floor mats over the standard i30 N hatch.
The 2025 Hyundai i30 Sedan N TCR Edition will go on sale in South Korea in December, with a global launch to follow in selected markets – likely including Australia – next year.
