The 2025 Peugeot E-308 has been detailed for Australia – but the electric hatch will be offered exclusively under a restricted ‘customer evaluation program’ at first.

Currently limited to 14 units, the E-308 will not be available for further orders in Australia for at least another 12 months – if ever – after Peugeot's local distributor scaled back its electric-vehicle plans and removed plug-in hybrid models from sale in September.

“Although a date for the introduction of the Peugeot E-308 has not been announced for Australia, the brand’s electric vehicle range is set to expand from 2025,” said Peugeot Australia in a media release.

A hand-picked selection of 14 buyers will be able to purchase the E-308 from Friday 8 November 2024, with priority given to customers who have registered their interest in the vehicle.

Priced at $65,990 drive-away, the Peugeot E-308 is offered in a single grade costing more than a Tesla Model 3 – one of Australia’s most popular electric cars – and other electric hatches like the MG 4, BYD Dolphin, GWM Ora, Nissan Leaf, and Cupra Born.

Peugeot Australia announced in September that every model it sells – excluding vans – would introduce mild-hybrid power by the end of next year, while the E-3008 electric SUV was delayed to 2025 at the earliest, and the E-208 and E-308 electric hatches were seemingly placed on the back burner.

Peugeot Australia said in a media statement in September it "revised the timeline for the introduction of future electric vehicles" due to a "rapidly evolving and dynamic" electric-car market.

The full-electric E-308 is $1000 dearer than the now-discontinued 308 Plug-In Hybrid – which has been axed in Australia along with the 408, 508 and 3008 plug-in hybrid models.

Revealed in 2022, the E-308 – also available as a wagon in Europe – is based on the ‘EMP2’ architecture derived from internal-combustion 308 models, with a 115kW/270Nm electric motor on the front axle and a 54kWh gross (51kWh usable) nickel, manganese and cobalt battery pack.

The E-308 hatch offers a WLTP-rated driving range of 400 kilometres in Australia, with support for 100kW DC fast charging.

For context, the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive is available in Australia from $54,900 before on-road costs with a 513-kilometre WLTP-rated driving range – while an MG 4 Long Range 77 costs $50,990 before on-roads with a 590-kilometre range, before an $8000 factory bonus.

E-308 buyers can choose between post-paid capped-price services with 12-month/25,000-kilometre intervals, or pre-paid service packs for the first three, four or five years.

The post-paid services cost between $309 and $495, totalling $1867, while the pre-paid service packs cost $700 for three years, $1000 for four years, and $1220 for five years.

Standard equipment for the E-308 appears to match the 308 GT Premium petrol hatch, albeit with a six-speaker unbranded audio system in place of the petrol's 10-speaker Focal premium audio system, and a different 18-inch alloy wheel design.
