 New automatic, improved fuel consumption

The 2026 Renault Trafic has been updated with a new nine-speed automatic transmission, upgrades to its technology, improved towing capacity, lower fuel consumption, and price rises up to $2500, on sale now.

For 2026, the Trafic's six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission has been replaced by a nine-speed torque-converter auto, which promises to bring smoother gear shifts and improved engine response.

With the new transmission, the 2026 Trafic is rated to use 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres of diesel, down from 6.5L/100km.

A six-speed manual gearbox is still offered in the Pro grade, in both short- and long-wheelbase variants.

To complement this, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine is now Euro 6 emissions compliant, requiring AdBlue diesel exhaust additive, and producing the same 125kW and 380Nm outputs.

The Trafic now offers a 2500kg braked towing capacity range-wide, improvements of 820kg for the short-wheelbase van, and 870kg for the long-wheelbase model.

Adaptive cruise control is now standard on Premium and Lifestyle models.

The 2026 Renault Trafic has service intervals of 30,000km or 12 months, whichever comes first, and is covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

For comparison, the top-selling Toyota HiAce quotes a regular service interval of 10,000km or six months, while the second-best seller in the class, the Hyundai Staria Load, lists 15,000km or 12 months.

The 2026 Renault Trafic is available now.
