The 2025 Deepal S07 electric SUV has recorded a 95 per cent score for adult occupant protection, equalling the Toyota Camry in physical protection and safe restraint against ANCAP's more stringent 2023-2025 criteria.

As a result, and in addition to other tests, the battery-powered car has been awarded a five-star safety overall, with the rating applying to all Deepal S07 SUVs built from September 2024.

According to the report, the electric SUV recorded maximum points in the side impact, oblique pole, and far side-impact testing which contributed to the SUV's top safety performance.

During the full-width frontal test, chest protection of both the driver and rear passenger was deemed as ‘adequate’, while protection for other critical body areas was rated as ‘good’.

Child occupant protection tests using dummies comparable to six and 10-year-old children were marked as ‘good’, with the Deepal S07 achieving maximum points in front and side impact testing.

However, the battery-powered SUV lost points for its onboard safety features – accruing 7 points out of 13 – and its child restraint installation, with 11.62 points out of 12 awarded.

ANCAP said the car's child presence detection system (CPD) – an alarm that goes off if a child has been left in the vehicle – "did not meet requirements", while the Deepal S07's 'Type A capsule' restraint "could not be correctly installed".

Vulnerable road user protection tests revealed the Deepal S07 provided ‘adequate’ protection to the head of a struck pedestrian, while ‘weak’ and ‘poor’ ratings were recorded on the stiff windscreen pillars and bonnet edges, respectively.

The peak safety body said protection of the pelvis and lower legs were mixed, with results ranging from 'good' to 'poor', while femur protection was marked 'good'.

The electric SUV achieved high scores for its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system, with the car's forward and reverse pedestrian AEB functions rated 'adequate' and 'good', respectively.

ANCAP docked points on the car's exit-warning system – which alerts drivers to approaching cyclists from behind the car – as the vehicle's warning “was not provided sufficiently early” despite it avoiding or mitigating bicycle crashes at all test speeds.

Overall, the 2025 Deepal S07 achieved 95 per cent in adult occupant safety protection, 86 per cent in child occupant protection, 74 per cent in vulnerable road user protection and 78 per cent in safety assistance.

Under ANCAP’s latest criteria, minimum scores of 80 per cent, 80 per cent, 70 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively, are required to achieve a maximum five-star overall rating.

“We've seen a number of new brands enter the local market over the past year, and they continue to impress in meeting the high safety standard Australian consumers and fleet buyers expect,” Carla Hoorweg, ANCAP's Chief Executive Officer, said in a media statement.

The 2025 Deepal S07 is priced from $53,990 before on-road costs and is backed by a seven-year/160,000km warranty and a further eight-year/240,000km for the high voltage battery.
