A Super Bowl commercial has revealed the Australia-bound Recon – packing almost 450kW – will be the first electric Jeep to include a Trail Rated Moab version.
The new Jeep Recon 4xe – due in Australia in 2026 – will the brand’s first battery-electric off-roader to offer a Trail Rated Moab edition and could be the first Jeep Moab model sold here.
While the Recon 4xe is one of three electric Jeeps officially confirmed for Australia – the others being the already launched city-sized Jeep Avenger and the luxury Wagoneer S due in 2026 – local model specifics have not been announced.
This means Jeep Australia has not yet officially confirmed the Recon 4xe Moab for local showrooms, with sales in the United States (US) kicking off later this year.
If it does make it, the Recon 4xe – an electric sibling to the Jeep Wrangler – will be the first Jeep Australia product to wear the Moab badge, which is a tribute to the annual Easter Jeep Safari held in Moab, Utah, US.
The Moab name last appeared in the US on the 2018 Wrangler Moab Edition and is reserved for off-road editions.
The Recon 4Xe will use a monocoque construction – as opposed to the body-on-frame preferred by traditional off-roaders – while ‘earning’ the Moab badge.
Jeep confirmed the Recon 4xe Moab for North America following a television commercial aired during the 2025 Super Bowl NFL game in the US.
Featuring Hollywood movie star Harrison Ford, the car maker’s two-minute ad showed a number of Jeeps including a pre-production version of the Recon 4Xe, spotted by the eagle-eyed reports on US website Carscoops.
Following the Super Bowl, the Recon 4xe Moab was confirmed with Jeep US showing the car on its public website with wording: “The hard-earned Trail Rated badge featured in our Moab trim and Off-Road Packages” when describing the electric SUV’s line-up.
When it lands in US showrooms later this year – with Australian deliveries in 2026 – the Recon 4xe is expected to use the electric dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain found in the Australia-bound Wagoneer S electric off-roader on sale in the US since May 2024.
The two Jeeps use the same STLA large vehicle platform, with the Wagoneer S available in 500hp (373kW) and 600hp (447kW) tunes which are both expected to be offered in the Recon 4xe.
Range should be similar to the Wagoneer S’s 383 miles (487km) US EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) rating from a 100.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.
The Recon 4xe will be the second electric Jeep sold in Australia, following the delayed 2024 launch of the Avenger, which also uses a car-like monocoque body.
Jeep Australia reported slow sales in Australia in 2024 – down 48.7 per cent on the previous year – amid issues in both North America and globally for Stellantis, which Jeep is part of.
In 2025, a revised version of the Jeep Gladiator is due in local showrooms in the second half of the year.
