Nissan Australia has matched Mitsubishi and MG in offering Australia’s longest new-car warranty at 10 years – an initiative more than a year in the making and well before talks of a global tie-up with Honda began.

Of note, Nissan’s assurance period – like Mitsubishi’s – is conditional on servicing with the brand, rather than MG’s warranty that only requires scheduled log-book maintenance “using materials that meet … engineering specifications”.

However, Nissan’s new warranty extends to 300,000 kilometres, exceeding the 200,000km and 250,000km offered by Mitsubishi and MG respectively.

Applicable for all new-car purchases from January 1, 2025, the 10-year warranty period also covers roadside assistance, and is valid for both private and commercial customers.

Nissan will also backdate the warranty for all new purchases from January 1, 2021, as long as all scheduled servicing has been done through its dealer network throughout that time.

As a result, even previous-generation X-Trail, Pathfinder and Qashqai models could qualify for the boosted warranty.

If owners have a lapsed maintenance schedule, or have serviced through non-Nissan outlets, the brand points out that a $99 vehicle assessment and in-house service can take place to determine eligibility for the 10-year warranty.

In addition to the extended assurance period, Nissan Australia has also rolled out a five-year capped-price service plan – dubbed Flat Price Service (FPS) – starting from $349 per service.

The full FPS pricing can be found here:

ModelCost per serviceFive-year total
Leaf$349$1745
Qashqai$399$1995
X-Trail$399$1995
Juke$399$1995
Pathfinder$399$1995
Patrol$499$2495
Z$499$2495
Navara$499$2495

According to Nissan Australia, the warranty is aimed at allaying any customer concerns about product quality and, as work started on the project more than a year ago, not a reaction to recent headlines.

"In tough times and in a period where the new car market is full of mixed messages, Nissan Australia is putting our customers first," said Nissan Oceania director of aftersales Michael Hill in a statement.

"It [the new warranty] is designed to deliver peace of mind to our customers. Peace of mind that Nissan has your back. Peace of mind that Nissan is with you for the long term.”

Nissan’s revised warranty is double the existing, industry-standard five-year/unlimited kilometre assurance, which is still available to new customers regardless of servicing location.

This means Nissan Australia now has a longer warranty than Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, and Honda – the latter of which it is negotiating a global merger.

However, while Nissan and Mitsubishi currently form two parts of an alliance with Renault, the Diamond brand could opt out and remain independent of the merger, as per recent reports out of Japan.

The Nissan-Honda union would also reportedly see Nissan buy out its remaining 15 per cent stake owned by Renault, making it a wholly Japanese company.
