The man in charge of the new Porsche Macan thinks it'll remain the company's best-selling model around the world, even as an all-electric model.

The new electric Porsche Macan is expected to remain the manufacturer’s best-selling model globally, according to the executive in charge of the vehicle.
Even as the latest generation Porsche Macan comes substantially more expensive, and has turned to electric power at a time of slowing electric-vehicle uptake, the vice president of the Macan product line, Jörg Kerner, believes it will recreate the success of its predecessor.
“I think it will be a best-seller,” said Mr Kerner.
“It's a really great car, and I drove this car for one year, every day, 100,000 kilometres, and I think it will be a best-seller because I think it's the best car in this segment.
“It's the sportiest car in this segment, and in every at every [respect], in every point, we are much better than the combustion car.”
The previous-generation Porsche Macan was introduced in 2014 and quickly became the brand's best-selling model both locally and internationally.
However, while the new electric Macan is faster and bigger than the car it replaces, it’s also more expensive.
The most affordable variant of the new electric Macan is $33,000 more expensive than the previous entry-level Porsche Macan (with a petrol engine).
Although electric powertrains are more expensive to produce than their petrol-powered counterparts, competition in the premium electric SUV market is now rife.
The electric Porsche Macan launches in Australia at the same time as the similar-sized Polestar 4, which ranges between $78,500 and $88,350 before on-road costs.
Comparatively, the four-strong Porsche Macan line-up ranges between $128,400 and $184,400 before on-road costs.
Its launch also coincides with slowing demand for electric vehicle sales. As many manufacturers begin revising their electric vehicle targets, comments from Porsche executives state that the brand will retain diversified powertrains for longer than initially anticipated.
Production of the previous-generation Porsche Macan petrol will continue for the time being and is open-ended, but only for specific markets such as North America. Australia has a balance of petrol Porsche Macan stock available until approximately Q2 2025.
From then on, like Europe, the only Porsche Macans to remain on sale locally will be all-electric.
